Mountain Honey Apples

A proprietary apple of Catoctin Mountain Orchard!  And only available at Papa’s Market…

The sister apple to the best peach of this year “Mountain Rose”; also, a Bob & Pat Black exclusive. (Remember when earlier this summer the peach season was great? Bad ending, more on that below). The “Mountain Rose” is an interesting story. The ever-creative Bob Black had ordered a new and improved Cameo dwarf sport from a nursery friend. He planted several rows and a year later noticed a marked difference in several trees. The apple appeared to be something like “Ambrosia’ but not quite. Interesting, “nobody could figure out exactly what is was, no match. Apparently, some experimental bud wood got mixed into the lot, of which there is no record. Bob pursued the apple and his Developer-nursery buddy said it was his to do what he wished. It is an exceptional apple, beautiful conical shape similar to a medium Cameo, orange red blush over gold background. Sweet, complex flavor with a pleasant medium crunch.
