The Stayman Apple (believed to be the seedling of the “Winesap”) was produced by Dr. Joseph Stayman of Leavenworth, Kansas circa 1860.
The distinctive sharp-tart element of the flavor, quite unlike any other unrelated cultivar is prized by many. This flavor element remains present for a month or two; after the apple softens and mellows into a great cooking apple.
